The combination of greens and banana is a sweet and savoury, creamy yet earthy, balance of flavours and a great way to consume more greens. Almonds give this smoothie a nutty taste as well as a little more bulk to fill you up. They are rich in essential fatty acids and very good for your brain. Cayenne pepper improves cardiovascular health and is a high botanical source of vitamin C.

serves 1 to 2

2 apples
5 green apples
2-inch (5cm) piece fresh ginger
1/2 cup (125mL) chopped romaine
1/2 cup (125mL) chopped spinach
1/2 cup (125 mL) chopped kale
2 tbsp (30 mL) raw almonds
1 banana (fresh or frozen)
4 ice cubes (optional)


1 Juice the lemons and apples

2 Pour juice into a blender and add remaining ingredients. Blend on high speed until smooth. Pour into a tall glass. Enjoy.
